December 1st was Antarctica Day, celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in 1959. The Treaty recognizes Antarctica as a preserve for peace and science, and originally went into effect with 12 signatories. Today 50 nations recognize it! Reflecting on Antarctica Day, here’s a few sketches from my first time down south as artist-in-residence with Quark Expeditions in 2006. Read more in my Antarctica project and check out #AntarcticaDay on Twitter to follow other peoples’ experiences!
